Giving the gift of a book takes a thoughtful approach. You want to give a book that will interest the recipient. Knowing your child’s habits and hobbies will go a long way in picking the just-right book. The same is true for an adult. Below are a few ideas to guide you in your Christmas gift selections.

Just Enough Room for Christmas by Robin Currie

In a tiny barn in Bethlehem, Old Hannah the cow lives alone until the cold wind drives other animals to seek shelter. One by one, they squeeze in. But surprise guests arrive, and the baby makes an unfamiliar sound. This delightful picture book shows that there is just enough room for the newborn King in our hearts and homes.

All Creation Waits: An Advent Mystery of New Beginnings by Gayle Boss

The picture book welcomes the Advent season, all centered around the theme of “The dark is not an end. It’s a door. It’s the way a new beginning comes.” Meant to be read one day at a time, the book introduces twenty-four animals and illustrates how they uniquely survive the dark, wintry season. Christmas Day presents the birth of Jesus and ushers in the reason for the waiting. This lovely, poetic book will kick off your next Advent season in a creative and profound way.

Children’s Advent Stories for Bedtime by David and Julie Lavender

This may be an Advent storybook, but the authors skillfully guide children through God’s grand story — from the Garden of Eden and Adam and Eve’s original sin to Jesus’ death and resurrection to His second coming. Each story connects the dots to the reason behind Jesus’ birth. The husband-and-wife team support their stories with scripture and solid research, keeping the text kid-friendly (not an easy task) while maintaining the focus on God’s plan for Jesus’ birth.

One Night in Bethlehem by Jill Roman Lord

This board book features a young child imagining what it might have been like to be present at Jesus’ birth. If he had been a lamb, he would have kept Christ warm. If he had been an angel, he would have announced Jesus’ birth. And if he had been a shining star, he would have eagerly led the way to the newborn babe. Charmingly illustrated, this book is a great way to introduce children to the incredible story of Christmas.

Wild Faith by Valerie Ellis

Although it’s not a Christmas book, this devotional makes a wonderful gift. The author features unique animals like a glass frog (who knew?), as well as more familiar ones like dogs and lions. Each devotion includes a “Make it Stick” and a “Live it Out” challenge.

Give the gift of a book this Christmas.
