Swanson Companies has been blessed to have the opportunity to sponsor local non-profit organizations for several years. We find it important to help in our community in this way because of fundamental teachings in the Bible.
- God’s Grace and Love: John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life”. We are to be like Christ, he died for our sins, showing grace and love, so we should show grace and love by giving, helping, serving others.
- Spiritual Discipline: 2 Corinthians 9:7, states “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver”. This means that we should not feel obligated to give but should give from a cheerful heart. Romans 12:3-8 tells us not to think of ourselves more than others, but that we all come together to form the body of Christ and each one of us has a spiritual gift that the body of Christ needs to be complete. So, to quote verses 6- 8, “We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.”
- Act of Love: In Matthew 25:35-40, Jesus tells us that what we do for others, we do for him. Every time we give, every time we feed someone that’s hungry, when we look after others who are sick, we are showing love for others which in turns shows love for Christ. Verse 40 says, “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
- Act of Worship: Giving of any form (financially, your time, resources, etc.) shows compassion and trust in God’s provisions which demonstrates one’s faith. Hebrews 13:16 says, “Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God”. Proverbs 3:9 states, “Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce”.
As fellow members of the body of Christ, we would like to encourage you, that if you are not yet giving to your home church or local non-profits, that you would consider praying about it and doing whatever the Lord leads you to do. Giving back and being apart in our community in this special way has been a true benefit not only as a company, but personally and spiritually in our lives.
