The Language Of Faith | Nashville Christian Family Magazine - April 2025

In the beginning, when God looked into the dark abyss, He called it light.  When Jesus saw the man with leprosy, He called him healed.  When God saw a frightened man hiding on the threshing floor, He called him Mighty man of Valor.  When Jesus investigated the storm, He called it calm.  Jesus called water, wine.  Samuel saw a young puny boy and called him king.  From the very start, the anointed language has always been to call things as they are not, it is the language of faith.

“Faith is the substance of things we hope for, the evidence of things not seen.”  (Hebrews 11:1).

Too often, Christians get stuck in their circumstances and choose to stop there.  We have a difficult time seeing light when there is so much darkness.  Our words are negative and lack hope.  They are mixed with doom and gloom.

The language of faith is believing what the Bible tells us.  The words of the Bible are seeds to be planted in our heart.  “Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks”.  (Luke 6:45).  Our speech is revealing what is in our heart and what we value.  It reflects our inner most being and our motivations.

I recently heard Bill Johnson, the pastor of Bethel Church located in Redding, California, speak about making decrees.  He said that when we feed our souls on the Word of God and confess what the Word states instead of what is troubling us, it is like putting landmarks in place where our heart will follow.  God will touch these areas. He went on to say it is like putting food in the refrigerator that we will eat later.

Listen to what is coming out of your mouth today.  Challenge yourself to make bold confessions based upon the Word of God.  Do not settle for status quo.  Do not stop at calling things as they are or as they appear to be.  Follow our Savior’s example and call things as they are not.  Practice the language of faith.
