How much does Medicare cost?
Generally speaking, that question is about the Part B coverage which is your Doctor coverage. The base premium for this year is $185/m. Several years ago, Medicare started basing the premium on your income. The 2025 amount is for single tax filers whose adjusted gross income from 2 years ago was up to $106,000 and married filing joint of up to $212,000. If your income was higher, you’ll pay a higher premium.
If you are getting your Social Security (SS) benefits your amount will automatically be deducted from those benefits. Example if your monthly SS benefit is $2185.00 and you are at the base amount the $185.00 will be taken out of your SS check for a net deposit of $2000.00.
If you are not taking your SS benefits you will be billed for your Part B premium.
Does Medicare cover long term care?
No. Medicare is health insurance while long term care is about custodial care (at home, at an assisted living facility, or a nursing home/memory care unit). Medicare will continue to cover your healthcare costs like doctor visits, hospital visits, surgery, rehab to name a few. There is a component for skilled nursing but that is usually for rehab at a facility after you have had major surgery or a health event to hone your skills to return to your residence.
Are all my prescriptions (drugs) covered by Medicare?
So for the most part yes BUT each one of your scripts will need to be throughly researched on the Medicare drug site. If Medicare does not cover your drug then your prescription drug plan (PDP) nor your MAPD plan will cover it.
It all can be very confusing and overwhelming. May I help you? I have 20+years in this industry and would be glad to give you some guidance!
