Over the last month, there has been no shortage of news crossing my desk having to do with weight loss. Here are just a few reports I thought you would find interesting.
WEIGHT LOSS SECRET
The secret to losing weight may be less about cutting calories and more about when you eat them, reveals new research from the European & International Congress on Obesity. People who eat 70 percent of their calories between breakfast and lunch consumed fewer total daily calories and ate better than those who waited for a big dinner after 6 p.m.
WEIGHT FOR IT
It was easier for your parents to lose weight than it is for you. It’s harder for adults today to maintain the same weight as those 20 to 30 years ago did, even at the same levels of food intake and exercise, according to Obesity Research & Clinical Practice, a scientific journal. Why? The scientists speculate that people today ingest more pesticides and other chemicals that make it much harder to drop the extra weight.
And sometimes, it’s all about the power of words.
TO AVOID EATING BAD FOODS, SWAP THESE PHRASES
When trying to avoid eating bad foods, trick your brain by saying you “don’t eat” what’s bad for you. A study in the Journal of Consumer Research found that people who were prompted to use the words “I don’t” versus “I can’t” were nearly twice as likely to resist the temptation of choosing unhealthy foods. The researchers believed using “I don’t” rather than “I can’t” gave people greater “psychological empowerment” by removing the need to make a decision.
