Q: What is the maximum amount a beneficiary of a Special Needs Trust (SNT) can have in a personal checking account?

A: If the beneficiary (person living with a disability) is receiving government benefits, the amount of money in the person’s checking account should not exceed $2,000, at the end of each month.  If the amount is higher than this, the beneficiary’s benefits can be affected.  If the beneficiary is not receiving government benefits and will not be applying for benefits in the near future, there is no maximum amount.
