Talent agencies and employers use their benefits package to recruit top candidates.  There is a value associated with these perks.  Some benefits may include a 401k, insurance, vacation, paid days off, wellness programs, employee discounts, and much more.

If an employee does not exercise his/her benefits, they lose out.  They may still have their job, but they miss the bonuses.

Just as there are benefit packages for top corporate jobs, as Christians, we have an extremely feature-rich benefit package.  However, if we are ignorant to what these awesome perks are, we too will lose out.  The Psalmist reminds us not to forget or fail to remember some of these benefits.

If we make our “Christianity” only about spending eternity with God and not apply his blessings to our everyday life – we “forget” his benefits.

Psalm 103:1-2, “Bless the Lord, O my soul and all that is within me, Bless his holy name.  Bless the Lord, O my soul and forget not his benefits. “

6 Benefits of Serving God

The verses to follow tells us what some of these benefits are:

Psalm 103: 3-5:

1) He Forgives all of our iniquities,

2) Heals our disease,

3) Redeems us from destruction,

4) Crowns us with lovingkindness and tender mercies,

5) Satisfies our mouth with good things, and

6) Renews our youth like an eagle.

  • Forgive us of ALL our iniquities.

There are no misdeeds, evil doings, sinfulness, or acts of immorality that we have not been forgiven for.  There is nothing that can separate us from God if we choose him.  He is not holding anything against us.  He provided forgiveness before we ever committed our first sin.

  • Heals our disease

Jehovah Rapha – God is our healer.  This is a robust benefit that we are promised.  God wants us well and has already provided healing to our bodies, inside and out.  Jesus healed everyone that came to him.  God is not a respecter of persons.  What he does for one, he has done for all.

  • God saves us from the destruction of hell

Everyone is an infinite being and will live somewhere forever.  We have a choice, heaven or hell.  If we know God, we will spend eternity with him.

  • We wear a paradise crown

God has placed a crown of lovingkindness and tender mercy upon us.  We can love deeper, care more, and experience greater empathy for our brothers and sisters.

  • Satisfies our mouth with good things

Not only do we have good food to eat for nourishment and sustenance, but he also gives us words of comfort and timely advice for others.

  • Renews our youth like an eagle

This is better than anti-aging cream.  God promises to renew my youth.  I can be youthful in my thoughts and actions because God supercharges my life.

Next time when you thank God for saving our souls, remember to thank him for his amazing benefits.  We get to experience these today as well as eternally.
