Iconic superstar Elijah Peel thought he was living the proverbial ultimate rock music dream of “privilege and excess” until life intervened. First came a nearly fatal heart attack that abruptly stopped the music. Then came the real showstopper: a 9-year-old girl named Jessica, who arrived in his life with some heavy baggage. She was dying.
From their very first meeting in the hospital, audiences will follow Jessica on a stealth mission to win Elijah Peel’s heart with love and challenge it with Jesus. Sensitive beyond her young years, she instinctively knew his was a heart that needed redemption. Opening in theaters nationwide on August 14, “Elijah Peel” promises to bring audiences some of late summer’s warmest moments.
Inspired by a true story, the project had the extraordinary good fortune of capturing the creative attention of newly launched independent film distributor EKKL Entertainment, which secured the film’s North American rights. Adding to the topflight creative mix, executive producers Willie and Korie Robertson (“Duck Dynasty,” “The Blind”) were highly motivated by the opportunity to use their significant talents to bring out the depth of the film’s faith message.

“Elijah Peel” was written and produced by Kevin D. Sepe, who also directed the film with Nathan Ross Murphy. It is a story torn from the pages of Sepe’s own experiences. After years of addiction and repeated brushes with death, the Miami-based writer, producer, and father of five found sobriety, embraced faith, and began rebuilding his life. That second chance at life ultimately led him to create a film inspired by his own mental and spiritual struggles and his decision to reject drugs for Jesus.
Moviegoers will leave the theater remembering poignant moments, warm feelings, and the stellar performances they witnessed onscreen. Robert Malcolm Cumming, whose first dream in life before acting was coincidentally to be a rock star, stars as Elijah. Nine-year-old Evelyn Grace Kite delivers a winsome performance as Jessica that bodes well for major things to come in her fledgling film career.
“Elijah Peel” also found Kite making history as the first child actor to win Best Lead Actress honors at the 2026 International Christian Film and Music Festival. Balancing out the new faces worth remembering, veteran actor Kevin Sorbo shines in a major supporting role as Elijah’s rock star manager.Put “Elijah Peel” on your must-see movie list for August, and come armed with tissues.
