Mom with kids | Nashville Christian Family Magazine - June 2025

Happy Mother’s Day to all you moms. On this day, moms receive hand-made crafts, thoughtful and humorous notes, and bouquets (sometimes weeds) from their kids. Moms, you deserve this day of recognition. But what about the other 364 days of the year? Know that you are affirmed by not only your kids and husband but by God, too.

God sees you during the midnight feedings (Genesis 16:13). He knows when you’re home with the three kids, the hubby is on a business trip, and you’re sick and still need to be a mom. He sees the single mom juggling a job, managing house responsibilities, and parenting the kids. He sees the sacrifices you make every day and how you teach them about Jesus.

God will satisfy you with His love and kindness (Psalm 90:14). Money may satisfy you for a moment or a season, but it never completely fulfills. Your husband may satisfy you with provision and companionship, but thinking he can fill the hole in your soul is asking too much of him. Your kids won’t satisfy you, no matter how accomplished they are. Only God has the ability and solution to fill the hole in your heart.

You were created for a purpose (Philippians 2:13). Maybe you gave up the big title to stay at home and wonder if you made a mistake. God has you right where He wants you. Maybe you work to make ends meet. Maybe you wonder if you’ll ever get a degree or follow the dream in your heart. There is great purpose in discipling and nurturing your kids. Remember, you only have them for eighteen years, and then they are off. Ask God to help you see His purpose in this role called mom.

You are clothed in strength and dignity (Proverbs 31:25). Maybe at this moment, you are clothed in baby spit-up or the first thing you pulled out of your closet. Maybe the laundry hasn’t been done, and you’re wearing the ten-year-old hooded sweatshirt from college. Or maybe you haven’t fit in your clothes since your pregnancy. If you’re a follower of Jesus, you are clothed in His strength and dignity. These are the finest clothes you will ever wear, and they come in one size fits all.

You can cast your cares on Jesus (1Peter 5:7). God cares for you. He knows the heavy burdens you bear. You weren’t meant to shoulder all that weight, and He wants to help you. Try a breathing prayer. While breathing in, say, “I cast my cares on you, Lord.” While breathing out, say, “Because You care for me.” Make this a moment-by-moment practice. Know that God has shoulders strong enough to carry your anxious thoughts.
