Lives Changed Through the Programs of The Salvation Army: Meet Danielle | Nashville Christian Family Magazine - March 2025 issue

When Danielle first arrived in our supportive housing shelter, she was disheartened and lacked direction and only knew that she needed to work and save and wait for the right doors to open. While attending life skills classes, she started to realize some key things. “I learned in the class that… there’s so many facets of poverty and not just the people that look worn down and tired all the time. It gave me the tools plan for the future instead of living only in the of the moment.”

Danielle successfully moved into her own permanent home after leaving the program, but it wasn’t the end of her journey with us. A year after that she returned to The Salvation Army in a much different role…one titled employee.

“During my stay here, I made up my mind that I wanted to give back. Now, I’m a shelter monitor. I’m the first person they see when they come through the front lobby and start their day.”

“I am thankful to the Salvation Army because if it wasn’t for them… there is no telling where I would be. I could be on the street, living in a tent or under a bridge, in a car, but Salvation Army took a chance on me.”
