Misinterpreting Scripture: A Biblical Warning From the Daniel Penny Case - Opened Bible | Nashville Christian Family Magazine

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place where He prayed. Mark 1:35

The One Test God Invites Us to Take

It’s fascinating that in the Bible, God allows us to test Him in only one area—tithing. He calls us to give the first fruits of our income, promising abundant blessings in return. But what if this principle extends beyond our finances? What if tithing our time—giving God the first moments of our day—matters just as much to Him? After all, He is our Father, and what loving father doesn’t yearn to spend time with His children?

Jesus Led by Example

As Christians striving to be more like Jesus, we should note that He tithed His time. Scripture shows that Jesus started His day early, in prayer and intimate conversation with the Father. If He—God in the flesh—made time to seek His Father first, how much more should we?

God desires to bless our lives in ways we can’t even imagine. He has a pre-planned destiny for us, and He longs to guide and direct us daily. But too often, we miss out on His best because we don’t give Him the time or opportunity to lead us.

The Battle Is Real

As men—husbands, fathers, and providers—the pressures of life can feel overwhelming. We face an enemy whose sole purpose is to rob us of our peace and joy. I call him “Jr.”—Joy Robber—because that’s exactly what he does. Many of us don’t realize it, but we are constantly wrestling against unseen forces in the spiritual realm. Scripture warns us:

“Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” – 1 Peter 5:8

The good news? Prayer is our weapon. It shifts the battle in our favor and keeps us grounded in God’s strength.

Armor Up or Get Slaughtered

People who know me have heard me say: “Armor up… or get slaughtered.” This isn’t just a catchy phrase—it’s a biblical truth:

“Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand against everything the enemy throws your way.” – Ephesians 6:11

Another saying I live by is “There’s power in the hour.” When we dedicate our first waking hour to God—tithing our time in prayer and Scripture—our lives begin to transform.

Take the Test

God has a perfect plan for your life. He wants to bless you with peace and joy beyond what you can imagine. But it starts with prioritizing Him. I challenge you to take the test—start your mornings with God, and watch how He moves in your life.

Are you ready to put Him first?
