HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2023
I hope that you enjoyed a blessed and Merry Christmas and looking forward to a wonderful new year!
It is human nature to think of our life span in terms of days, weeks, months and years and seasons. The years seem to come and go faster and faster as we get older. The old saying, “the older you get, the faster time goes”, is certainly true.
Whatever events of this past year that you have experienced, whether pleasant or not so pleasant, as Believers we all have something in common as we begin 2023. We have hopes, expectations and plans that we, our loved ones and friends will be blessed during this coming year.
The Bible provides us with many scripture references to give us guidance whether our explectaions are earthly or eternal. In particular, Philippians Chapter 3 provides a perfect example for how we should approach a New Year. Verses 13 and 14 give us a directive from God through Paul’s words to the Christians in Philippi.
“Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (New American Standard).
As Paul challenges himself in these verses, we should adopt his goals as an important New Years Resolution as we look to the future. Doing this will help us to live in a Godly manner in our daily walk with the Lord.
