A monthly column on diet, exercise and my weight loss journey.
Over the last month, there has been no shortage of news crossing my desk having to do with weight loss. Here are just a few reports I thought you would find interesting.
PLASTIC DIET KILLER
If you gain weight even if you follow a strict diet, blame your plastic water bottle or the other plastics in your life. New research from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology finds plastic products are making it harder for people to keep fat off. Scientists say certain chemicals in plastic packaging and other goods can seep into the human body and interfere with a person’s metabolism — leading to weight gain.
CHEESE PLEASE
The secret snack that tames hunger – cheese. Have a slice of cheese two hours before dinner and you’ll eat fewer calories. According to a report in the Journal of Nutrition, cheese is low in carbs and high in protein, which helps curb your hunger.
And finally, a workout plan even I can handle!
LIFTING WEIGHTS FOR JUST 3 SECONDS A DAY CAN IMPROVE YOUR MUSCLE STRENGTH
No time for exercise? No problem. A new study finds lifting weights for as little as three seconds a day can still have a positive impact on your muscle strength in the long run. Researchers in Australia and Japan found that performing a single bicep curl at maximum effort can lead to a 10 percent increase in muscle strength in just one month.
Now, while all these tips and tricks are interesting food for thought, you and I both know that nothing is going to change without taking action and going it alone is hard.
