When we look at the world today, it is not hard to sense the unsettledness. We see conflict between nations, natural disasters, pandemic outbreaks and moral decline. While no one knows the day and time when Christ will return, Jesus does say we will recognize signs that indicate the time is approaching. (Matthew 24:32,33 & 42-44). Some describe this as birth pains.
Jesus did not give us these signs to create dread or fear but awareness. They remind us that the world on this side of heaven is not permanent, yet, we have a loving Father that has made a way for us so that we could spend eternity with Him.
The Word is full of communication. In addition to warnings, we have instruction, correction, comfort, and invitations throughout Scripture. Jesus is always communicating with us and wanting to know the condition of our hearts. From Genesis to Revelation, God shows us that he does not leave His people in darkness. He warns not to condemn, but to call us closer. He reveals truth not to produce fear but to produce faith. Jesus meets us with open arms exactly where we are. He loves us deeply. We do not have to clean ourselves up and become perfect before we come to Him.
We cannot control what is happening in the world, but we can make sure our own souls are prepared. We possess the power to forgive others, including ourselves. We can love deeply and live faithfully getting to know Jesus better and better with each passing day.
The same Jesus who told us to watch and be ready is the same Jesus who gave His life for us. He holds our future securely in His hands.
If there has ever been a time to listen closely to the Lord, it is now. Not in panic or doom but in faith. Living ready without living in fear.
