What began as Give Thanks, a single day of service near Thanksgiving, is growing into something bigger, bolder, and more connected.
This year, United Way of Greater Nashville is excited to launch Season of Sharing—a community-wide volunteer campaign designed to meet the needs of our neighbors all winter long.
Running from November 1 through the winter months, Season of Sharing encourages individuals, families, corporate groups, and nonprofits to come together through acts of service, compassion, and kindness. Whether you are serving meals, sorting donations, wrapping gifts, or fulfilling a nonprofit wish list, your time and generosity make a real impact when it is needed most.
Why the Change from Give Thanks to Season of Sharing?
Over the years, United Way’s Give Thanks Day of Action became a beloved community tradition. But as our region has grown, so have the needs—and the opportunities to help.
We heard from our nonprofit partners that needs vary beyond food boxes.
The new approach also gives corporate partners more flexibility in scheduling volunteers and provides more ways to plug in.
Season of Sharing expands on the Give Thanks model by offering:
- More time and flexibility — service opportunities run November through January.
- More ways to give — from on-site volunteering to donation drives and wish-list fulfillment.
- More community connections, matching volunteers directly with agencies in need across nine counties.
“Season of Sharing gives our community the chance to stay engaged all winter, not just one day,” said a United Way spokesperson. “It’s about giving families and companies meaningful ways to make a difference throughout the entire season.”
