Looking Up Or Down When Your Cross the Turbulent Waters of Life | Nashville Christian Family Magazine

One of the most admirable stories of the Bible is when Peter walks on water.  It is crazy to think how he applied his faith and walked on top of the waves in the middle of the sea.  It was only when Peter looked down, his faith wavered, and he began to sink.

Contrast this with Jesus, who performed one of his many miracles by feeding the 5000 people with a small lunch.  The Bible tells us He took the bread and fish and looked up, gave thanks, and fed thousands of people with a meager amount of food.

We are constantly in situations day in and day out that require Biblical faith.  Opportunities that are both large and small that require a step of faith for us to move forward.  We have a choice if we will either look up or look down.

Looking up gives us the perspective of keeping our eyes on Jesus and trusting Him to see us through to the other side of whatever we may be facing.  When we make a choice to look up, we are choosing to put our faith in Jesus.

Looking down keeps our eyes on the circumstances.   We limit our solution to only the natural, what our senses can perceive.  Looking down voids us of faith and dictates our response.  We “begin to sink”.

“Faith is the substance of things we hope for, the evidence of things not seen”.  (Hebrews 11:1). Faith not only pleases God but when we choose to look up and keep our eyes on Jesus rather limit our resources to our circumstances, we defy the odds.  It allows God to show up in miraculous ways.

Up or down, we always have a choice.  Choose to keep your focus upward, on Jesus.
