It’s difficult to pick up the pieces after making the wrong choices in life. That’s what Cherise discovered when she was trying to move forward after a long periodof hardship.
Cherise had been released after spending time in incarceration and, with nowhere else to go, was living on the streets and relying on the kindness of passersby to help her get through the day-to-day. Then, “Someone had said this name, The Salvation Army,” Cherise remembers.
Cherise was able to call The Salvation Army, and was put on the waiting list to receive assistance. Not long after, the call came that her name was at the top of the list. With the help of her case manager, Cherise found affordable housing that she could move into quickly and other resources she could turn to for a sense of community. “It was a relief to have somewhere to stay,” Cherise says. “They helped me find housing in the area … support groups … made me feel like I had support here.”
Now, Cherise feels more confident about life than ever before. “My case manager reaches out to me frequently just to let me know they’re there for me. To keep going … it feels really good. Anybody that needs help, or you feel like you’re hopeless, The Salvation Army is where you can go and get help.”
