A monthly column on diet, exercise and my weight loss journey.
Weight loss. A topic with no shortage of news, opinions, and advice. Here are a few reports I thought you would find interesting.
Decide On Dessert
Want to eat healthier? Decide on what your dessert is going to be before you choose your meal. A new study from the University of Arizona shows that knowing ahead of time that you’ll be treating yourself makes you more likely to choose healthy foods and smaller portions during your meal.
We’re not lazy, we just eat too much. Even if you love to work out, losing weight may be impossible unless you push yourself away from the table. Scientists compared activity levels now and in the 1980s, just before obesity rates started to climb, and discovered we’re getting the same amount of exercise. That means one thing: We’re overeating. According to an article in Health magazine, If you want to drop a dress size, experts say, you’ll have more luck if you eat less instead of exercising more.
Dogs Make Us Healthier
Want to lose weight or get outside more? Get a dog. A new survey finds seven in ten dog owners found they’ve become physically healthier since getting a dog. Almost three-quarters of respondents (72%) agreed that having a dog gives them a chance to explore their surrounding natural areas more than they would have otherwise.
