Mornings. Some of us love them, some not so much. But for almost all of us, it can be hard to get out of bed in the morning. Sometimes it’s because we are tired, sometimes it’s because we don’t want to get out from under the warm covers, and other times we have so much to do that day that we don’t know where to start. Whatever the reason may be for keeping us in bed, there is a way to start your day that is better than any cup of coffee could ever be.
Thanksgiving. Paul tells us in Colossians 3:17, “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Giving thanks is not just a command in the Bible; it is something that gets our mind off of our circumstances, and on to the God of our circumstances. He is the one that will give us the grace we need for the day. Think of all things you have to be thankful for that day – as you thank God for them, you will see a shift in thinking from, “I don’t want to get out of bed,” to “God has a plan for today, and I get to walk with him in it.” Every day can be an adventure with God. No amount of caffeine should make us more awake than that does!
Being thankful is key to health! Health is not just physical, but mental and spiritual. They are all intertwined so closely. If we get our mindset right, then our physical bodies will follow. Getting healthy is not just about behavior modification; it is about renewing the mind and letting our actions flow out of a renewed mind. It is about the way we think first and foremost. Being thankful will transform your mind and perspective from “I can’t” to “I can’t, without God.” Once we think like that, there is nothing we can’t do.
He has blessed us more than we can even imagine. Being thankful will transform your mind and life. I encourage you today, let the first thing you do tomorrow morning be giving thanks for all the things you have to be thankful for that day. It is the best way to start your day!
