Your support to the Library Foundation provides essential funding for programs like summer reading.  Public libraries play a central role in promoting literacy, education, and community engagement.  Summer reading programs in particular, help prevent learning loss and strengthen literacy skills.  Your support ensures that these vital programs continue to thrive and grow, enriching our communities by fostering a culture of lifelong learning.  The Library is one of the very few places that is free and open to everyone.

Andrew Maraniss is a New York Times bestselling author of narrative nonfiction for teens and adults, focusing on the intersection of sports and social justice. Andrew’s first book, “Strong Inside” won multiple awards, as did his subsequent three books.  This year, he has launched a series of early chapter books for young readers which highlight athletes who have done meaningful work outside of sports to help other people.

Pete Weber, the “voice of the Predators”, has been with them since their first season.  Pete has been named the “Tennessee Sportscaster of the Year” eight times in his career.  While he is best known for hockey, Pete has done play-by-play announcing for football, basketball, and baseball.

Lost & Found: The Amazing Legacy of the Enslaved; Mary Banks, of the Forest Home Community

This year, the African American Heritage Society of Williamson County is proud to honor the descendants of Randle and Polly Brown. Randle and Polly Brown were enslaved by Nicholas “Bigbee” Perkins at Meeting of the Waters in Forest Home. After emancipation, Randle and Polly raised their family in the 6th Civil District of Williamson County as farmers. Their daughter, Malvina married Thomas Southall, and their descendants spread far and wide. Their legacies are teachers, postal workers, authors, civic leaders. This year’s photograph exhibit, curated by renowned local historian and genealogist Thelma Battle, celebrates this legacy. The exhibit will be on display in the Special Collections Department at the Main Library in Franklin through the month of February.
