Dr. Ming Wang, Harvard & MIT (MD, magna cum laude); PhD (laser physics) is a world-class laser eye surgeon. His story was featured in the film “God’s not dead”. He co-founded Common Ground Network. The film “Sight”, based on this autobiography “From Darkness to Sight”, co-starring Greg Kinnear, tells a fascinating story of how God has showed him that faith and science do have common ground.
Being a research scientist and also a Christian, Dr. Wang embarked on a 20-year journey, to try to find a way to understand how fetus can heal without scar. He wanted to do research on fetal tissue but without hurting a fetus in the process. He believed that faith and science do have common ground and God will show him the way to discover the secret of fetus’ scarless healing ability and at the same time, preserving life. As a Christian, Dr. Wang believed that God would eventually help him find the solution but he has to continue his work without giving up (James 1-4: Perseverance complete you). After years of research on placenta and amniotic membrane (fetus-connected tissue which are discarded), he eventually invented amniotic membrane contact lens and received two U.S. patents. Today, amniotic membrane contact lens has been used by tens of thousands eye doctors from around the world in nearly every nation, and millions of patients have had their eyesight restored. The film “Sight” is about a fascinating story of how the amniotic membrane contact lens was invented.
