Planting Trees - Which to plant in your Middle Tennessee yard - Crepe Myrle Flowers in a Garden | April 2023 issue \ Nashville Christian Family Magazine

Does it feel like your yard is missing something? You’ve got beautifully green grass, some nice landscaping near your front door –but you still want to add that finishing touch.

Have you considered planting a tree in your yard? Many trees are low maintenance yet add beautiful flowers and curb appeal to homes. If you think a tree might be just what your front yard needs, here are a few of our favorites.

Crepe Myrtles

Crepe myrtles are particularly popular in the South, and for good reason. Crepe myrtles are heat, humidity, and drought tolerant, making them a low maintenance tree option. The best part is, while these trees are beautiful year-round, they boast stunning flowers in the warmer months.

Serviceberry (Juneberry)

Serviceberry trees, also called Juneberry trees, offer a lot of curb appeal and a beautiful spring bloom. You may have to prune a few crossing branches in the first few years, but otherwise these trees don’t take much work.

Dogwood Trees

Dogwood trees are another favorite in the Southeast, and one of the most popular trees for front yards. Dogwood trees are adaptable and drought-tolerant and provide nice shade when in full bloom. These trees also offer several different flower colors!

Evergreen Trees

The benefit of planting evergreen trees in your yard is in their name. They look great year-round and are most often low maintenance. If you’re looking for evergreen trees for a smaller yard, we recommend hollies, junipers, or arborvitae.

Chinese Pistache

Chinese Pistache trees are very rugged and are great for adding a shady space to your yard. These trees’ deep green leaves turn a show-stopping red orange in the fall, and won’t wither during dry seasons. As a bonus, these trees are highly resistant to pests and diseases.
