If you ask popular worship leader and songwriter Don Moen why God put him on this planet, he’ll tell you, “To be an architect who designs products and events that help people experience God’s presence in a new and fresh way.” In keeping with that calling, Don will be joining long-time friend and Christian singer-songwriter, John Chisum, for An Evening with John Chisum & Friends at the historic Franklin Theatre on Sunday night, October 16th.
Also featuring Centricity Music artist Coby James and a surprise guest or two, this powerful evening of worship will go to benefit Hands Across the Sea, a children’s literacy organization that has supplied new books, built libraries, and offered on-the-ground community support to over 850 schools in the Eastern Caribbean for over fifteen years.
With more than three decades of music making and millions of miles behind him, Don Moen is as dedicated as ever to the dual purpose of facilitating worship and helping children in need. “God has given me a large platform through my songs and worship leading. Those gifts have opened up many opportunities to bring hope to people who have lost hope,” remarks Moen. “Reaching out to a person in need can be the sweetest song of worship ever heard!”
Billed as “a night of music for a lifetime of learning,” the event is a continuation of the support that Chisum and his wife, Donna, have shown for Hands Across the Sea over the last twelve years. The Williamson County couple have supported the charity with their giving and other fundraising, as well as by traveling to the island of St. Lucia in 2019 to sponsor a fresh coat of paint for one of the schools Hands supports deep in the rainforest.
Offering both in-person and online streaming tickets, Chisum hopes to simultaneously fill the Franklin Theatre and reach a global audience. “People are used to streaming events more than ever,” he says. “It’s not far-fetched to think that thousands of people could be streaming our event straight out of the Franklin Theatre to homes and churches all over the world.”
An Evening with John Chisum & Friends will be geared for a great cause and provide an unforgettable night of worship. But it will also be a celebration of friendship and camaraderie as long-time friends Chisum and Moen reunite to make music and share their unique gifts with the Franklin/Nashville community. Don Moen remarks,“John Chisum and I have had the privilege of working together on numerous musical projects over the years not only as music executives, but also as worship leaders and songwriters. I’m looking forward to joining John once again for a great evening of music and worship in support of Hands Across The Sea!”
