Fine Art & Design
Hi, I’m Katherine, aka Cadie Bugg.
God gave me a passion for art at a young age. At age 7, I painted my first paint-by-number. It was a challenging and frustrating process. Around that same age, I began designing random posters, birthday cards, and calendars on a program called The Print Shop. When I was 8, God gave me the courage to complete my second paint-by-number, it turned out a lot better than the first. After that, I was buying paint-by-numbers like crazy with my allowance, birthday/Christmas money. In high school, I finally started creating my own paintings and paint-by-number was a thing of the past. As for graphic design, in my senior year of high school I had a teacher, Mr. Netherton, who encouraged me to pursue graphic design as my major in college.
Two years in the graphic design program at MTSU, I was feeling defeated and lacked confidence in my designs. Instead of praying about the situation, like I should have, I made an abrupt decision to switch my major to printmaking. I had only taken one silkscreen (screen printing) class. The hands-on aspect of printmaking is what I enjoyed the most, but I quickly found out that’s not where my skillset was. I was stuck. Tired of college, tired of homework, tired of critiques. I did land a job at Swanson Christian Products in 2015 as a graphic designer creating catalog layouts and product designs, my confidence started coming back. I pushed through printmaking and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts with a minor in Graphic Design in 2016.
I have yet to use my printmaking skills since graduating, however, I use my graphic design skills daily. My next leap was moving to Washington State where I worked for Image360 Tacoma Central as their graphic designer. God blessed me with a “work” family when I was 2,000+ miles away from home. There, I had the amazing opportunity to work with local individuals and business owners to create signs and graphics. I ended up moving back home to Tennessee and joining Swanson Developments. I became their Creative Marketing Manager and designed flyers, took pictures/videos of properties, and managed their websites and social media platforms. In 2024, I created my freelance graphic design business, to which I give God all the glory. I now have over 10 years of experience in the professional graphic design field.
What about painting? It’s still a passion of mine, and I create pieces not only for my personal collection, but also when I receive a request. And then there’s pointillism, but that’s another story.
I’m always looking for new and exciting artistic opportunities, whether it be a painting, a pointillism piece or graphic design. Let’s connect!
