Meet James
James has been fighting to make ends meet for him and his young son over the last several years. “I lived house to house and had family members helping me out”, James says.
Not knowing where they would sleep, or what they would eat was very hard on James. “As a father, the way it makes me feel and not being able to provide for my son is tormenting, mentally tormenting”, he says.
Then, while he was at work, James learned about the 2 Gen Family Initiative offered by The Salvation Army. At first, he struggled with asking for help. Society says a father should be able to take care of his family on his own; however, he laid his pride aside and focused on the most important person in his life, his son.
“It is just amazing. I feel like I can see. I feel like I have a goal…It is a relief; I feel like God came down from Heaven and answered my prayers.”
Through the program, James set goals specifically for his family and sticks to them with the help of his case manager. He is now on his way to changing his family’s future for the better. “The Salvation Army is not only willing to understand you, but also step inside of your shoes to help you get to the place you want to be in life.”
