When I saw a social media post that read, I’m a good Mom and my daughter is a drug addict, I felt sad. Sometimes, despite our best efforts and fervent prayers, children make harmful and even life altering choices.
For some, Mother’s Day can be a trigger for emotional pain rather than a relished holiday. On the Bridges set, I’ve listened to stories of women battling infertility, moms fighting for custody, and adult children struggling to forgive their parents for the unthinkable. Now, add Mommy guilt and societal pressures, and you’ve got the makings of a meltdown instead of a Mother’s Day celebration.
Perhaps an important consideration for this holiday is understanding that God sees you. He values your prayers, labor, and love. He sees the mom of the special needs child and the mom who works two jobs. He sees the woman who prays fervently to become a Mother. He sees the mom of the honor roll student. He sees the woman who mentors and nurtures without the title of Mom.
He Sees the Challenge of Your Assignment
He sees all. He alone is fully acquainted with the weight of your tasks and the challenge of your assignment. He hears the long and short prayers. He is up with you during your sleepless nights and seemingly endless days.
I hope your Mother’s Day is filled with honor and celebration. I hope that all women who mentor and nurture are also celebrated. I also hope that even if your celebration doesn’t go exactly the way you imagined that you realize you are valued and celebrated by your Creator.
One of my favorite stories in the Bible is about the widows’ mite. When she contributed the little she had ——Jesus took notice and commended her. I take great comfort in that story because it shows me that Jesus counts differently than we do. The story also demonstrates that He values our contribution above earthly standards of measurement.
He Hears Your Prayers
He hears your prayers Mom. He knows the tireless labor of raising children in a broken world. He sees women with a gentle and nurturing spirit who invest in building the lives of others. He also knows the journey of loving a prodigal. After all, He loves everyone – even those who reject Him.
As we celebrate women this Mother’s Day, let’s honor all who mother, mentor and/or nurture. Let’s take great comfort in today’s Secret from the Studio: He sees you. He alone is fully acquainted with the weight of your tasks and the challenge of your assignment. He will honor your labor and your prayers.
For God is not unfair. How can he forget your hard work for him, or forget the way you used to show your love for him—and still do—by helping his children?
