This year is ushered in with bright promises of an enthusiastic beginning. Studies show that 60% of us will make a New Year’s resolution, one of the most popular among Christians is reading the Bible through. It never gets old and there is always something new to discover, no matter how many times it is read.
Now more than ever, it is so important to have a worldview rooted in a biblical foundation. The Bible is our standard and point of truth. There is an answer for every question we may have. Sadly, many Christians claim to believe in God, but have no idea what His Word states. The relevance and authenticity of the Bible continues to be challenged and often taken out of context. In order to have a Biblical worldview and a sure foundation as children of God, it is essential to base our thoughts, actions, and opinions on this holy manuscript because these words have been inspired by God.
“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” (2 Timothy 3:16).
The Bible is made up of 66 small books and was written by 40 different authors, all who were inspired by the Holy Spirit. The Bible has been translated into over 683 languages and continues to be the most read literature, hands down, to this day. An average of 100 million copies are sold annually, and while these facts are impressive, they are only the tip of the iceberg. The biggest reason why this manuscript is so impressive is because it is God’s love letter to his people. It allows his children to interact with Him on a personal level.
The Word was inspired by the Holy Spirit, and as a result, it needs to be read by one’s heart and not just the head. God literally spoke through prophets, priests, shepherds, poets, scribes and fishermen to bring His word to His chosen people. There are several authors telling the same story: God’s redemption for mankind, motivated by His great love that ultimately points to His Son, Jesus, the Savior for the world.
The Bible shares a rich history in the foundation of our country. For example, our government’s supreme court building depicts Moses holding a copy of the Ten Commandments at the top. In the Library of Congress, the murals are full of Old and New testament scriptures throughout, and the Liberty Bell is etched with a biblical passage from Leviticus. Our founding fathers understood the importance of Scripture and built our nation upon the Word of God. It is just important now as it was then. The Scripture is timeless and has something to say.
